In September, 2013 the State of Colorado experienced extremely heavy rainfall along with catastrophic flooding. This resulted in major damage across a range of twenty-four counties, resulting in loss of life and causing more than 18,000 people to evacuate their communities. Our Town of Lyons was hit hard by this event, causing considerable damage to property and belongings, and our safety was threatened.
We are a strong community, and have responded with pride. Volunteers and professionals helped keep us safe, fed us, and provided shelter. Our roads and bridges are in the repair process. Businesses are open, and residents are coming back home. These are all steps in the recovery process.
Our community extended beyond our boundaries, and came together to envision a Lyons-stronger than before. We have volunteered many, many hours to create our Lyons Recovery Action Plan. Some of you felt so strongly about the importance of the projects that you were willing to work as Champions to promote and implement them. Thank you for all of your hard work and contributions. - Lyons wouldn’t be here without you.
To become a reality, the Lyons Recovery Action Plan will need your continued involvement and support. We may run into setbacks we couldn’t foresee and probably circumstances beyond our control. But together, we will be stronger and we will accomplish our dreams. Thank you for all your perseverance and pride.
